چکیده

The stability and quality of noise shaping is a concern in the design of higher-order delta-sigma modulators for oversampled analog-to-digital conversion. We reformulate noise-shaping modulation alternatively as a nonlinear control problem, where the objective is to find the binary modulation sequence that minimizes signal swing in a cascade of integrators operating on the difference between the input signal and the modulation sequence. Reinforcement learning is used to adaptively optimize a nonlinear neural classifier, which outputs modulation bits from the values of the input signal and integration state variables. Analogous to the pole balancing control problem, a punishment signal triggers learning whenever any of the integrators saturate. Experimental results obtained from a VLSI modulator with integrated classifier, trained to produce stable noise shaping modulation of orders one and two, are presented. The classifier contains an array of 64 locally tuned, binary address-encoded neurons and is trained on-chip with a variant on reinforcement learning.

Time-Mode Signal Quantization for Use in Sigma-Delta Modulators

The rapid scaling in modern CMOS technology has motivated the researchers to design new analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architectures that can properly work in lower supply voltage. An exchanging the data quantization procedure from the amplitude to the time domain, can be a promising alternative well adapt with the technology scaling. This paper is going to review the recent development in t...

A noise-shaping accelerometer interface circuit for two-chip implementation

This paper introduces a new architecture for sensor interface circuits using a delta-sigma modulator. The three-level force feedback allows the use of a digital compensator to stabilize the loop. A 3rd-order delta-sigma structure shapes the opamp noise and allows two-chip implementation with high loop gain at low frequencies.

A new continuous-time multi-stage noise-shaping delta-sigma modulator has been designed. This modulator provides high resolution and robust stability characteristics which are the primary advantages of the conventional multi-stage noise-shaping architecture. At the same time, previous critical challenges that degraded the overall performance of multi-stage noise-shaping delta-sigma modulators a...

The Sigma-Delta CNN with Second Order Noise Shaping Property

Abstract: In this paper, a novel spatial domain 2-D sigma-delta modulation using two-layered discrete-time cellular neural networks (DT-CNNs) with multi-stage noise shaping (MASH) property is proposed. Although the sigmadelta modulation is widely used for realizing of analog to digital converter (ADC), sigma-delta concepts are only for 1-D signals. Signal processing in the digital domain is ext...
